Pension advice for the works council
In terms of pension schemes, the Works Council plays an important part within an organisation. Pensions are complex, and for many works councils it is difficult to be completely up-to-date on the ins and outs of relevant pension matters. The Works Councils Act (Dutch: WOR) lays out that the Works Council can employ experts.
If a mandatory pension scheme for a sectoral pension fund is altered, a Works Council does not have any direct authority. This also applies for changes to (parts of) pension schemes that have been regulated fully in a collective labour agreement. For other changes, the Works Council has the right of consent as laid down in the Works Councils Act (article 27).
